Sessions

Opening Range Pro supports three major trading sessions — Asia, London, and New York — each with independent opening range detection, level projection, and session close tracking. All sessions operate with timezone-aware detection, ensuring correct timing regardless of your chart's timezone setting.

Session Definitions

SessionFull SessionDefining RangeTimezone
Asia08:30 – 15:0009:30 – 10:30Tokyo (JST)
London08:00 – 13:0008:00 – 09:00GMT
New York09:30 – 16:0009:30 – 10:30ET

The defining range is the period from which Opening Range Pro calculates all OR levels, IOR levels, standard deviation bands, and inner divisions. After the defining range ends, these levels extend across the remainder of the session.

How Sessions Work

  1. Session opens — Opening Range Pro begins tracking the defining range
  2. During defining range — The OR box forms, updating with each bar as body high/low and wick high/low develop
  3. Defining range ends — All levels lock in and extend horizontally across the session. SD bands and inner levels project from the completed range
  4. Session continues — Levels remain visible as static support/resistance for the remainder of the session
  5. Session ends — If Session Close Price is enabled, the closing price is marked and carried forward

Multi-Session Display

Opening Range Pro can show all three sessions simultaneously on the same chart. When sessions overlap — such as the London-NY overlap period — both sets of OR levels appear, creating multi-session confluence zones. When Asia OR levels align with London OR levels, these confluences carry more significance than single-session levels.

Session Independence

Each session has its own:

  • Opening range box with independent body/wick tracking
  • OR High/Low, IOR High/Low, Open, and Close lines
  • Standard deviation expansion bands (if enabled)
  • Inner division levels (if enabled)
  • Session close tracking line

Session Close Tracking

Opening Range Pro marks where each session closed and extends that level as a reference line for subsequent sessions. The close price appears as a labeled horizontal line (e.g., "ASIA CLOSE", "LONDON CLOSE", "NEW YORK CLOSE"). Session close levels help assess gap behavior and session-to-session momentum.

Display Conditions

Opening Range Pro only displays on intraday timeframes up to 30 minutes. On higher timeframes, the indicator automatically hides because the opening range concept is fundamentally an intraday framework. For best visibility, use 1-minute to 15-minute charts.

FAQ

What are the session times in Opening Range Pro?

Opening Range Pro tracks three sessions with timezone-aware detection. Asia runs from 08:30 to 15:00 Tokyo time with a defining range of 09:30–10:30. London runs from 08:00 to 13:00 GMT with a defining range of 08:00–09:00. New York runs from 09:30 to 16:00 ET with a defining range of 09:30–10:30. The defining range is the period from which OR levels are calculated.

Can I show all three sessions at once in Opening Range Pro?

Yes, Opening Range Pro displays Asia, London, and New York sessions simultaneously on the same chart. Each session has its own independent opening range box, OR levels, standard deviation bands, and inner divisions. Enable or disable each session individually via the Sessions settings group.

What does the Session Close Price feature show?

Opening Range Pro's Session Close Price feature marks where the previous session closed and extends that level as a horizontal line into the current session. This provides a reference point for gap analysis and session-to-session momentum assessment. The close price labels identify which session it belongs to (e.g., "ASIA CLOSE", "LONDON CLOSE", "NEW YORK CLOSE").
